LAST month's Australian Federal Election failed to inspire many, many people. Except us, here at FEZ Central. Together with recent events, such as, a volcano threatening to blow its top on the largest of Indonesia's islands, Sumatra, for the first time in 400 years: the widespread flooding in China and Pakistan that continues to worsen, displacing millions of people and doing untold damage: the latest in a long line of oil spills, in the Gulf of Mexico, (which was the worst on record and is far from being dealt with), it got us thinking.
If you look the word "disaster" up in a dictionary or Google, you will discover quite a few different meanings. We are going with the widely understood definition: a sudden catastrophe, a violent change, an event producing noticeable changes, often negative.
The way the world is going at the moment, one could be forgiven for thinking that the 21st Century will be one full of disaster. Although we are only one decade into it, there is more than enough shit going down to back up that claim and more trouble is coming, and yet, we seem, despite our great leaps in technology, even less prepared and able to deal with what, predominantly, is thrown at us by a changing Natural World.
Of course, nature is not responsible for all disaster, and we will also be covering Man's uncanny ability to get himself into some serious shit.
Ok everybody....

BLAME IT ON THE WEATHER
Dave Schwan
I thought I would tackle Kevin Rudd's great-moral-imperative-mission-of-all-time-do-it-now-or-we-are-all-doomed thing, Global Warming/Climate Change (GW/CC), but from a slightly different and rarely mentioned (possibly for good reason) angle--that of the "Oh my god,the government is controlling the weather" point of view.
This side of the debate has not received much press since the early 90's and is regarded by many as the ravings of the deluded doom-monger set, but I'm game if you are...just keep asking yourself "but what if it's true". Seriously though, the GW/CC issue is deep and murky and yet many people agree that mankind is at least partially responsible. It's just that some may be more responsible than others......
Please forgive my habit of jumping all over the place in writing this piece, it's simply the nature of the subject matter. Even though much of this information has been excluded from recent GW/CC debate, both the military and scientific communities have amassed large amounts of knowledge regarding the manipulation of our climate.
As far back as 1955, John Von Neumann stated that "Intervention in atmospheric and climactic matters will unfold on a scale difficult to imagine at present...this will merge each nations' affairs with those of every other, more thoroughly than the threat of nuclear or any other war would have done." Von Neumann, one of the earlier thinkers regarding weather control, came up with the idea of dumping dirt or soot on the earths' glaciers in the case of an ice age. The result of altering their reflectivity would assist in the earth retaining its solar energy.
Also in the 1950's and 1960's Wilhelm Reich carried out 'cloud-busting' experiments that are still controversial today. Reich was also the man who discovered 'orgone' energy. His cloud-buster was made up of pipes grounded in water and connected to layers of material from living and inorganic sources that acted as an 'orgone' accumulator. He is said to have brought rain to a drought-stricken Tucson, Arizona, the grass shooting to one foot in height due to the 'orgone' energy buildup. Trevor J. Constable carried on Reich's work, mounting the pipes on aircraft and flying through areas needing rain. Constable claims to have evidence in the form of film, time-lapse video and other data-- apparently showing his ability to manipulate storms. He states that the "chief characteristic of this vital energy is that it flows from low to high potential, not the reverse or standard concept of energy potentials." In Australia during the 1970's, Jack Toyer, on Palmers Island near Grafton, built a rainmaker using a solar mirror, electromagnetic charge and infra-red frequencies of light. Pat Stevens continued his work.
The above-mentioned are just some of the individuals who have recently tried to manipulate the weather but this has been going on for as long as man has walked the planet. American Indians are known to have performed rain ceremonies and dances, as are the Australian Aborigines. The ancient Greeks and Romans made sacrifices of people to appease the weather gods. The Berwick witches of Scotland were found guilty of using Black Magic to summon storms to sink a ship to murder king James VI of Scotland. These and many more such attempts have been made at altering the weather, leaving only the gods to know what effect all this has had on our weather today.
Between the 1950's and the 1980's various experiments were tried to influence rainfall and to stop, weaken or deflect cyclones and hurricanes. The best known rain-making process was cloud-seeding, where silver iodide or dry ice was spread throughout clouds to stimulate rainfall. Project Storm Fury involved the seeding of a storms' eye wall with silver iodide to weaken it. Soot was also tried, with inconclusive results. Barges with upward-pointing jet-engines to trigger small storms capable of disrupting a hurricane were also proposed. These above-mentioned efforts, whether successful or not, were all attempts to influence the weather for positive purposes. It is where science and the military mingle to develop weather modification techniques that much of the mysteries come from.
If you Google the words 'weather control', little mention is made of military efforts until the very end, under 'Future Aspirations'. Here we see mention of things like: 'simulated hurricane control based on selective heating and cooling (or prevention of evaporation); potential for weather control via space-based solar power networks; gentle heating via microwave of portions of large hurricanes--such chaotic systems may be susceptible to "side steering" with a few degrees of increased temperature/pressure at critical points; a sufficient network might protect host nations(and threaten others); blizzards, monsoons, and other extreme weather conditions are also potential candidates for space-based amelioration.
The list of such items goes on and on. It mentions that if large-scale weather control were to become feasible, potential implications might include: unintended side-effects, especially given the chaotic nature of weather development; damage to existing eco-systems; health risks to humans; equipment malfunctions and accidents; non-democratic control or use as a weapon(!); ELF(?) hotspots causing slightly accelerated ionospheric depletion by solar winds.
This little list makes it clear that anybody who messes with our weather is well aware of any problems that may occur and that they don't give a shit. They just want to rule the world. If there are still doubters amongst our reading public I suggest you look up an Air Force study from 1996 called; 'Weather as a Force Multiplier--Owning the Weather by 2025'. It is a study designed to comply with a directive from the Chief of Staff to examine the concepts, capabilities, and technologies that the USA will require to remain the dominant air and space force into the future. It talks of 'war-fighting capabilities', of 'high-risk, high-reward endeavors' and of 'weather modification offering a dilemma not unlike the splitting of the atom'. There is little doubt that this stuff has been going on for quite some time and of course they are going to deny it.
In 1977 both the Yanks and the Soviets were concerned enough about this technology spreading to the hands of their enemies that they ratified an International Convention 'banning military or any other hostile use of Environmental Modification Techniques (ENMOD) having widespread, long-lasting or severe effects'. The term ENMOD refers any technique for changing--through the deliberate manipulation of natural processes--the dynamics, composition or structure of the Earth, including its biota, lithosphere, hydrosphere or atmosphere or of outer space.
Again, at a 1992 Earth Summit in Rio de Janerio, the substance of the 1977 Convention was generally reasserted. But following this summit, this subject of the military manipulating climate change was never again raised at a United Nations venue. Though in 1998, the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs, Security and Defense Policy held public hearings in Brussels on the US based weather-warfare facility developed under the HAARP programme. The Committee's "Motion and Resolution' submitted to the European Parliament:"Considers HAARP (The High Frequency Active Auroral Research Programme, based in Alaska)...by virtue of its far reaching impact on the environment, to be a global concern and calls for its legal, ecological and ethical implications to be examined by an international, independent body". The committee's request to draw up a "Green Paper" on the environmental impacts of military activities, however, was casually dismissed on the grounds that the European Commission lacked the required jurisdiction to delve into links between environment and defense. The HAARP array has caused many a wet-dream for the avid conspiracy theorist over the years, being thought responsible for many an unsolved mystery.Based in Gokona, Alaska it has been in use since 1992. It is part of a generation of weaponry developed under the US Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI). It is operated by the Air Force Research Laboratory's Space Vehicles Directorate (?) and is made up of a system of powerful antennas that can create "controlled local modifications of the ionosphere"(the upper layer of the atmosphere). Critics, quite rightly, claim that a main objective of the system is to "exploit the ionosphere for Dept. of Defense purposes." Even an Air Force study points to the use of "induced ionospheric modifications" as a means of altering weather patterns as well as disrupting enemy communications and radar. HAARP can also trigger blackouts, disrupting the electricity power systems of entire regions. So, one minute the military are denying that it is a weather weapon and the next they admit that it is. Well, look hard enough and you can find weather-control patents issued by HAARP over the past decades. Patent #3564253 is summarised as:"A system and method for generalised irradiation of relatively large surface areas of a planet, such as the earth, the moon, etc, for illumination, heating, weather-control,etc, employing one or more planet-orbiting, self-erecting, planar-reflector satellite controlled in altitude and orbit position to reflect energy from the sun to a designated area on the planet's surface." Although this patent calls for a satellite, HAARP ground installations are capable of directing energy to any spot on the planet. There are other HARP sites in Puerto Rico, Norway and Russia.
If this has whet your appetite for weather-control and you want to see it actually happening, you must get outside, or watch the weather- channel, and keep an eye out for what those in the know call 'anomalous blocking highs'--a ridge in the jet stream that stays locked in one place for up to several months instead of moving normally. Such stationary high-pressure areas tend to occur just off the coastline and are noted for preventing rain from falling inland. As weird as this may sound, such an event apparently occurred over British Columbia for several months during 2003--2004, drying out coastal rainforest and the interior to the point of creating two of the worst forest-fire seasons on record. At this point people usually ask why, who would possibly benefit? And the answer is not the pot growers of mainland USA but the evil American lumber growers... At the time there was the "soft wood lumber" dispute between Canada and the USA. American lumber businesses did not want competition and vigorously opposed northern imports. Despite the 'Free-Trade' deal between the two countries, the US lumber industry succeeded in having an exorbitant tariff charged on Canadian wood products. According to those in the know, when the tariffs failed to get the desired results, the US lumber industry turned to the weather-control people at their local Masonic lodge and the rest is history.....
Strangely enough there exists a website, operated by a fellow by the name of Tom Bearden, and he is in the possession of photographs of cloud and weather patterns apparently being controlled by unnatural means. Grids, radials and other shapes appear to go against the wind direction in some cases. There actually are some weird right angled cloud formations to be seen there, but who knows.....deep in the bowels of the internet, at three o'clock in the morning, stranger sights have been reported, and that's all folks...
